Fintan Gavin becomes the first Irish champion of season 2 of the PokerStars UK & Ireland Tour, with a win in Edinburgh over the weekend. He beat Andrew Hawksby, who was playing his first live tournament ever, heads up for the title and £61,500 first prize. A total field of 519 entered the £500 Main Event, creating a prize pool of £251,715.

Hawksby may have been playing his first live tournament, but Gavin is no stranger to the live felt. He already has over $1.2 million in live winnings, came 2nd in EPT Barcelona in 2008, and is one of the organisers of Irish Poker Championships.

When asked with what he would do with his winnings, he replied “Buy shares in Eoghan O’Dea.”

5.15pm:Thomas Ward doubles through Antonis Poulengeris who bust in 7th (£8,050)
'What a bad move that was,' said Antonis Poulengeris as he looked down at the 69,000 he was left with.

Jamie Dale had raised to 60,000, Poulengeris flat-called and then Thomas Ward three-bet, this forced out Dale but Poulengeris stuck around to see the flop fall 8♠4♦[10d].

He checked to Ward who c-bet 163,000, a chunky bet, but Poulengeris raised it to 400,000 total. Back on Ward he announced all-in for around 800,000 total, quick call from Poulengeris. On their backs:

Ward was in command with top set and Poulengeris needed running cards, he got runner but not runner-runner as the 7♦ and 6♣ completed the board. 'I put him on a smaller pair and thought he'd fold,' explained Poulengeris to his rail.

The next hand he got his remaining chips in with 5♥3♥ against Fintan Gavin's A♠J♥ and the board ran 3♠K♣Q♣A♦2♥ to send him to the rail in seventh. -- NW

5.12pm: Dale wins enormous 2,600,000 pot, takes chip lead
Jamie Dale has just won a huge 2,600,000 pot from Fintan Gavin with A♦Q♥ beating 8♣8♦ all-in pre-flop. We couldn't tell who had got it in first but the 2♥A♠6♣6♦K♣ board soon saw the chips being pushed in Dale's direction. He takes the chip lead, Gavin still alive but out of the lead for the first time today. He's down to 700,000. -- RD

5pm: Cylde-Smith changes tactics
After Jamie Dale had raised to 60,000 he was flat called by George Clyde-Smith, the first time in a while that he hadn't entered a pot by moving all-in. Perhaps he had too many chips now?
Either way his flat call scared off the other players and the two of them saw a flop of 5♠6♣J♥, Dale checked and folded after Clyde-Smith bet 60,000.

As he raked the pot Thomas Ward said what most seemed to be thinking: 'Had to be aces or king once you've flatted.' -- NW

4.57pm: Cylde-Smith gets it through again
George Clyde-Smith has been all-in a lot today. He's just shoved again, this time for 442,000 and swiped the blinds to chip up to around 550,000. Thomas Ward considered the call, but not for too long. -- RD

4.46pm: Poulengeris hits a monster
Antonis Poulengeris is still trying to chase down Fintan Gavin's chip lead after hitting hit top set on a dangerous 9♠J♠K♠ flop against Andrew Hawksby, who check-called 100,000 on the flop.

Both players checked the 9♣ turn before Hawksby led 230,000 into the river. Poulengeris made a small raise to 530,000 and Hawksby passed. Poulengeris claimed to have kings, I think he may have showed them but we can only see what the monitor shows us. Poulengeris is on around 1,400,000, we think-- RD

4.35pm: Swindells out in 8th (£6,300)
Rob Swindells was down to 189,000 and the appearance of an ace in his hand was more than enough to get it in. Unfortunately Thomas Ward found a bigger ace.

Both players flopped and Swindells was left drawing short as the board ran out 4♣J♦Q♥6♦8♣. A creditable 8th place finish for Swindells. -- RD

Andrew Hawksby moved all-in for 497,000 with A♣J♣ and Rob Swindells made the call with 9♥9♣.

It was a 1,000,000 chip flip and the flop of A♠7♦3♦ gave Hawksby the lead. The turn was the Q♦ and the 3♥ completed the board, Hawksby doubled and Swidnells was left with around 150,000. -- NW

3.40pm: Hawksby shoves on Clyde-Smith
Andrew Hawksby just moved in on George Clyde-Smith for 401,000 over an initial raise of 48,000. Hawksby up to nearly 500,000 after the fold.

After Rob Swindells opened to 55,000, George Clyde-Smith three-bet to 120,000. It folded back to Swindells who shoved for 521,000 total, slightly more than Clyde-Smith. Then the chat began.

'I'll have a bowl of rice left if I lose,' said Swindells. 'It's probably a flip at best,' said Clyde-Smith, eventually after a dwell Clyde-Smith folded, he's down to 400,000, Swindells up to 650,000. -- NW

Thomas Ward looked like he wanted to call, in fact he even said he wanted to, but he didn't. Swindells three-bet shoved for 449,000 from the big blind and chips up to around 525,000 after forcing a fold from opening raiser Ward. -- RD

In consecutive hands Rob Swindells and Craig Brown moved all-in, the latter over a Kevin Letham open.

3.08pm: Poulengeris into second
Antonis Poulengeris has just won a huge flip against Craig Brown to move into second in chips. After a series of raises Poulengeris moved all-in for 690,000 and Brown called.

'Someone's got to gamble at some point,' said Brown showing down A♦Q♦.

Poulengeris showed T♣T♥ and hit a flush on the K♣[1c]2♣6♣A♥ board. Brown down to around 500,000, Poulengeris up to 1,400,000 and chasing Fintan Gavin. -- RD
